These words found in Hebrews 1:1-2, without question show how the Lord
spoke to his servant, T.C Stallings, and led him to begin the
Sunday School which later grew to become First Baptist Church, Mt Pleasant.

The Lord spoke to Mr. Stallings while out in a corn field of the need of starting
a church for His glory.  After much prayer he began Sunday School in September
of 1910 in a little nearby abandoned dwelling.  Meetings were held there until the
church was organized on October 19, 1911.  At that time they began to meet in the
auditorium of Mont Amoena Seminary.  There were 18 charter members.
Rev Stalling conducted the first service.

Rev. D.P. Morris, who preached one time a month, was chosen to be the first pastor.
The church was now meeting in a mill house (rent free) owned by Tuscarora Cotton Mill.

In 1912 the congregation constructed a building by doing the work themselves.
Services were held there until 1928 when a tornado struck and demolished it.

In 1930 a new church building was built.  In 1949 a new pastorium was built.
In 1953 a new church building, which we are in today, was built.

God has truly blessed First Baptist Church through the years.
